Make A Difference Your Own Way

We offer programs for:

* Summer community service for high school students.

* Gap Year programs for independent young adults.

* Solo and Group Volunteer programs for people of all ages.

Our group programs are comparable in quality and safety to other international groups working in Cambodia, while our fees are much lower (40-50%), as we employ local villagers and resources whenever possible to run and develop our programs and projects. Volunteers are welcome to join any of the programs with their children, partners or group of friends.

Why Pay To Volunteer?

We charge our volunteers a nominal amount which allows us to continue our work in Cambodia and provide quality conditions for our volunteers. Our organization has very little external funding and is heavily reliant on the volunteer program fees to be able carryout our various projects and workshops for the communities that we work with. We work very hard to keep our costs down because we understand volunteers are looking to stay long periods of time. Often our program volunteers and students are living on limited budgets. Registration fees will secure your place on the program. And are due before the arrival of any volunteers, this allows us to purchase materials and ensures programs are able to run without any issues.

Involving additional staff incurs additional costs such as food, accommodation, transportation, transfers, project selection etc. We charge fees to cover these expenses, however 100% of these fees go towards providing you with these services. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization some or all program fees may qualify as a tax deduction.

Program Fees Cover:

* Airport pickup * Orientation * Accommodation * Local Meals * Program materials * Motorbike rental * Placement donation * Internet access * Transportation *

Program Fees Do Not Cover:

* Flights * Laundry service * Drinks & Bar Bills * Visa fees * Recreational Activities *

Gap Year Opportunities - Do Much More Than Just Visit

If you are looking for a unique and genuine community service opportunity spending time helping others, look no further. Our customized Gap Year programs will allow you to spend as much time as you want working with communities in dire need of assistance. Our gap year programs differ from those offered by many other organizations as our students enjoy the freedom and responsibilities of working as an intern for our organization with our orphanage and community development projects.

Our unique Community Development Internships offer an unparalleled exchange of knowledge and friendship within the communities in which we work. Throughout the world thousands of children lack the basic necessities of education: books, pencils, resources and teachers. Global Student Outreach alumni, gap year and college students are invited to become a dynamic part of addressing some of these needs. Working with disadvantaged children does not require any special training or experience, only a genuine and humble passion for helping others to learn how to improve their lives.

Global Student Outreach Community Service Internships are designed for people who are looking for a life-changing experience, have a desire to help children, and want to experience the joy that comes from working with some of the neediest children the world has to offer.

Our Gap Year Internships usually operate with two to four participants. As a volunteer, you'll travel with your team to one or more of Global Student Outreach's project locations. A team usually works together to accomplish a specific goal, such as leading a children's program or doing construction improvements on a home or school; depending on the team's skills and program.

Whether working to build a home, painting a classroom, or teaching local children you can be sure a Global Student Outreach Gap Year Program will expose you to people and places never to be forgotten.

Interested In An Authentic Homestay?

If interested, we normally place our adult volunteers with local host-families in our project village. While students are placed in private accomodation located at our office unless they have expressed interest in living with a local family. Homestays are great way to immerse yourself in a new culture and it provides families with a regular income, which enables them to afford additional benefits for their families, such as extended education for their children or better access to healthcare. It also develops cultural understanding for everyone involved. For our younger volunteers: perhaps the experiences they have today will help to shape their attitudes when they become the leaders of tomorrow.

We have host families from all walks of life. Couples with or without children, joint families, single parents, single people etc. Host families provide accommodation, food, emotional and moral support, and guidance for the volunteers and students. A routine day in a host family is the behind-the-scenes-look into the culture of Cambodia and gives a large insight into the customs of the host country; an experience like none other.

Not only learning but also understanding why the culture is like the way it is. Host families help the volunteers and students to interact with the local community, which increases their chances of making friends and contacts. Members of the host family play an important role in guiding the volunteers in their everyday life during the exchange term, as they will be the first ones to whom the volunteers and students would ask questions. Host families expect the volunteers to follow the house rules, duties and live exactly like any other member of the home or household. Also it is expected that volunteers will be treated in the same way as any other member of the family.

A Cambodian host family requires that the volunteer who live in their home should be willing to become part of his/her host family with the same rights, that he/she should be prepared to help with the daily household chores (clean his/her room, help to prepare meals or to clean the dishes, etc.)

Sometimes you need to go half way around the world to discover how to change it.
